Duo Tucumã

The Duo

The Hamburg-based guitar duo Duo Tucumã, consisting of HfMT master's graduates Lucas Etcheverria (Brazil) and Nikolai Voigt (Hamburg), creates a new world of sound with 6- and 7-string guitars. It combines elements of samba, Brazilian classical music, and bossa nova with traditional "baixarias"—improvised bass lines from choro.

The repertoire ranges from reinterpreted works by important Brazilian composers to hidden gems that the duo brings to life in their own sophisticated arrangements. This creates a new dimension of traditional Brazilian music in which the two guitars complement each other – sometimes as a rhythmic foundation, sometimes as a melodic voice. Structured composition meets freedom of play and improvisation, allowing the music to appear in a modern light.

With virtuoso technique, multifaceted rhythms, and a palpable joy of playing, the duo opens up a fresh perspective on Brazilian guitar music – full of depth, rhythmic energy, and emotional intensity.
